8th Grade Physical Science-
The eighth grade curriculum at St. Luke is Physical Science- this is a combination of both Physics and Chemistry. We will study Chemistry in the first semester, and Physics second semester. There is a high math component along with more complex concepts so students need to take care with notes, vocabulary and practice assignments- this is a big change from 7th grade!! Be patient; ask questions, practice and study! Along with this we will also be doing an extensive independent science fair project that will begin in September and end in January. There is a handbook available in the download section, though still in the draft stage, it is an excellent resource.
Students will be expected to maintain a science section notebook. The notebook will contain all notes, vocabulary and practice work assigned for each chapter. Pages are not to be torn from this notebook. Assignments will be checked for completion and reviewed on class. Notebooks are subject to random collection for teacher review. Students will also have a binder to keep handouts in, but are not required to keep all past assignments.
The structure expected for notes will be as follows:
Title of section at top of page- include chapter and section number
Example- CH 2 sec 1- Properties of Minerals
All green and purple headings must be written on the left margin and highlighted, facts and info related to that section are indented on bullet points/numbered etc Example-
What is a Mineral?
-roughly 100 common, only 20 make up majority
-all have same 5 characteristics
-cannot be man made
