8th grade English- Course overview and general guidelines
Eighth grade English culminates the elementary English experience by bringing it all together through diagramming and writing. As part of the writing, vocabulary will also be stressed. Vocabulary will consist of a 2 week program of introducing words, practice work, and then the test will involve spelling, POS and definitions. If definitions are missed due to absence, students can get words from peers or access this website. Writing will consist of poetry and short writing work related to grammar concepts along with major writing assignments-roughly one for each quarter. Finally, support concepts for science fair will also be addressed, including elements of writing a research paper, bibliography, in text citation etc. We will introduce both MLA and APA style of citation as used in high school and college, but will focus on just APA in our writing.
